On her decision to go vegan, Olivia explains, "Beyond my desire to boycott the torture factories, I am also way happier when I eat a plant based diet, and I feel about a thousand times more energetic." Bob Harper relies on a vegan diet to keep him in top form. "I enjoy living a plant-based diet because it makes me feel clear headed and strong, not to mention my genetically high cholesterol dropped more than 100 points," says Harper. "That was all the motivation I needed."

Top honors went to country singer Kellie Pickler and heartthrob actor Milo Ventimiglia. Kellie cites health benefits and the treatment of animals as reasons for going vegetarian. She explains, "It's animal cruelty. A lot of it has to do with knowing what happens to the animals and it really bothered me and so I will not eat meat." Ventimiglia, a lifelong vegetarian, stated that he was even "vegetarian in the womb." He's living proof that you can grow up healthy, happy, and hot without consuming flesh.

Red Hot Chili Pepper Anthony Kiedis and sultry songstressLeona Lewis were named the Sexiest Vegetarians Alive in 2008. Kiedis went vegan after learning about the worldwide depletion of fish in the oceans and after a doctor recommended a healthy vegan diet for his son. "Soon after I [went vegan] I saw some documentary footage of what happens in the factory farming of cows .... It sealed the deal," says Kiedis. On being vegetarian Lewis—whose album Spirit made her the first British artist to top the U.S. Billboard chart with a debut album—said "I don't have clothes, shoes or bags made from leather or suede or any animal products. ... I'm on a mission."

The Tonight Show's Kevin Eubanks, who has long been known for his buff body in addition to his musical skills, is proof that turning to veggies doesn't mean turning down muscle. "Every night before the show, I make sure [my] guitar is perfectly tuned. And every day, I do the same for my body—with healthy, vegetarian meals," Eubanks has said. "It's the easiest way to stay fit and feel great." Two-time sexiest vegetarian winner Carrie Underwood is a lifelong animal lover. "I quit eating beef when I was about thirteen," she has said. "I do it because I really love animals and it just makes me sad. … I don't like to watch commercials where they have meat. It weirds me out."

Chris Martin and his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, are known for their love of vegan cuisine, and they made international headlines when they gave their daughter, Apple, a vegan birthday cake from Moby's New York eatery, teany.

Alicia Silverstone, who shot to fame on the big screen inClueless, has said, "Once I became vegan, my nails were stronger, my skin was glowing, I lost a lot of weight. … Going vegan is the single best thing I've done in my life. I am so much happier and more confident. I made a decision based on my moral beliefs." OutKast frontman André 3000 took the music world by storm, landing a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and multiple number one hits on the Billboardcharts. When he was asked how he would spend his last day on Earth, he replied, "I'd probably go for a great meal—some broccoli probably, because I'm a vegetarian."

Lauren Bush, top Tommy Hilfiger model and the niece of President George W. Bush, has been a vegetarian since the age of 4 and is passionate about animal protection issues. One Thanksgiving, she told friends that she'd contribute a pie to the family meal but would not cook stuffing for the turkey, saying, "I am a vegetarian. I won't do anything that has to do with the turkey." Josh Hartnett's decision to go meat-free came several years ago and happened in an instant. "One day I was cutting up a chicken for my mom, and I hit a tumor with the knife," Hartnett said. "There was [pus] and blood all over the place. That was enough for me."

Tobey Maguire has been meatless since 1992. He bulked up for his role as Spiderman by eating lots of tofu, and he said of his pre-veggie past, "I had a really tough time eating chicken, because I would start imagining what I was eating and what kind of life the animal led." Natalie Portman, who starred as Queen Amidala in the Star Wars prequels and more recently starred in V for Vendetta, has been a strict vegetarian since she was 8, after seeing a demonstration of laser surgery on a chicken at a medical conference with her father. She does not eat meat of any kind and avoids gelatin and other animal products. Says Natalie, "I am a very strict vegetarian. … I just really, really love animals, and I act on my values."

Shania Twain was the first star named Sexiest Vegetarian Alive by PETA.org voters. "I don't eat meat, fish, or eggs. I was never a big meat-eater, but I've got more energy now," said Shania, who hasn't eaten an animal since she married longtime vegetarian (and record producer) Mutt Lange in 1993. Her favorite food is pasta, and she says, "I eat a lot of tofu, and I drink soy shakes with fruit every morning. I always have soybeans, black beans, or chickpeas for lunch or dinner."

"Before taking your next sip of tea, check the label on the bottle because you may be drinking a cupful of cruelty to animals.Nestlé, the maker of Nestea, is testing and paying others to conduct painful and deadly tea tests on animals. The company has caused animals to suffer simply to investigate the possible health benefits linked to tea products and ingredients, even though not one of these experiments is legally required for beverage manufacturers, and regulators have stated that animal tests arenot sufficient to prove a health claim about a product.

In these cruel tests, mice and rats were tormented and then killed by such means as decapitation. The following are some details of the horrors endured by the animals used in Nestea's tea experiments:

Mice bred to suffer from brain dysfunction and rapid aging were fed green-tea extracts and then locked in a dark chamber, only to receive painful electric shocks to their feet; the mice were then killed.
Mice bred to suffer from muscle degeneration were fed green-tea extracts, after which experimenters cut open the animals' leg muscles and then decapitated them.
Experimenters injected toxic chemicals into mice to destroy insulin-producing cells, causing the animals to develop diabetes. After this cruel procedure, the mice were force-fed tea extracts and then killed.
Rats made to suffer from high fat and cholesterol levels were forced to consume tea extracts through a tube that was forced down their throats; the rats were then killed and dissected.

Modern, cruelty-free research methods are available and are in use by other leading beverage companies around the world. We need YOU to join us in telling Nestea to ditch its cruel-tea to animals and to use non-animal methods instead.

Why Animal Rights?

"Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. Many of us bought our beloved “pets” at pet shops, had guinea pigs, and kept beautiful birds in cages. We wore wool and silk, ate McDonald’s burgers, and fished. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?

In his book Animal Liberation, Peter Singer states that the basic principle of equality does not require equal or identicaltreatment; it requires equal consideration. This is an important distinction when talking about animal rights. People often ask if animals should have rights, and quite simply, the answer is “Yes!” Animals surely deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. Jeremy Bentham, the founder of the reforming utilitarian school of moral philosophy, stated that when deciding on a being’s rights, “The question is not ‘Can they reason?’ nor ‘Can they talk?’ but ‘Can they suffer?’” In that passage, Bentham points to the capacity for suffering as the vital characteristic that gives a being the right to equal consideration. The capacity for suffering is not just another characteristic like the capacity for language or higher mathematics. All animals have the ability to suffer in the same way and to the same degree that humans do. They feel pain, pleasure, fear, frustration, loneliness, and motherly love. Whenever we consider doing something that would interfere with their needs, we are morally obligated to take them into account.

Supporters of animal rights believe that animals have an inherent worth—a value completely separate from their usefulness to humans. We believe that every creature with a will to live has a right to live free from pain and suffering. Animal rights is not just a philosophy—it is a social movement that challenges society’s traditional view that all nonhuman animals exist solely for human use. As PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk has said, “When it comes to pain, love, joy, loneliness, and fear, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. Each one values his or her life and fights the knife.”

Only prejudice allows us to deny others the rights that we expect to have for ourselves. Whether it’s based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or species, prejudice is morally unacceptable. If you wouldn’t eat a dog, why eat a pig? Dogs and pigs have the same capacity to feel pain, but it is prejudice based on species that allows us to think of one animal as a companion and the other as dinner."

Ser Mãe...heis a questão!

Ser mãe passa por tomar uma decisão muito importante e de preferência a dois, digo isto porque ter um filho sem poder dividir tarefas e emoções...é duro.
NÒS tomamos esta decisão em Janeiro e a pipoca veio ao mundo em Outobro.
Ser mãe é uma mistura de emoções tão grande...que cada passo que damos é vivido como se fosse a 1º vez...e afinal no meu caso até o é.
As 1ºas semanas não são facéis, mas depois é só seguir o trilho, o nosso bébé já faz parte do nosso dia a dia, da nossa vida, tudo se torna muito simples, parece que fomos formatadas para aquilo...parece não, fomos mesmo.
Após o parto e durante o periodo de recuperação é a altura em que tudo nos é exigido ao máximo...é duro, sair da Ordem ou Hospital e voltar a casa é o maior desafio.

Mobilidade reduzida...(cesariana)
Dar de mamar...
Compreender o nosso bébé em tempo record
Momentos de depressão...chorarrr sem mais nem porquê

Apesar de tudo isto, tive um parto óptimo, com uma equipa excepcional, uma parteira maravilhosa...senti-me em casa com todo o carinho e conforto, (o meu bébé nasceu na Ordem do Carmo - Porto)a presença do meu marido que esteve muito acima das minhas espectativas, que já eram altas, da minha mãe e amigos.

Passado algum tempo, posso dizer que me sinto uma mulher realizada, tenho uma filha fantástica, e AMO ser mãe e ADORO ser mulher por isso nunca esqueço o meu marido, continuamos a nossa rotina de programa a dois ou com amigos e a vóvó fica com a neta querida...lol

E por aqui me fico, decidi apenas deixar o meu testemunho ...

Sejam pais...e os que não conseguiram ainda, não desistam....

Há uma inexplicavél vontade de nos expressarmos quando só a nossa alma nos faz entender o que sentimos, como que uma forma certa de nos expressarmos de forma evidente e controlada, mas por outras palavras e expressões....a escrita.
Abraçamos, amamos, recordamos, criamos sem que ninguem tenha de saber a não sermos nós a caneta e o papel......por onde vão saindo as expressões incompletas, mas que não tardam a completar-se ao longo da descrição de cada emoção.
Aprendemos com os erros.....e transformamos o que é correcto, porque é assim que devemos transformar as sensações ou emoções até um dia acharmos que chegamos la.
Sem ou Com nexo aqui fica esta descrição de tempos e tempos que lá vão desde a ultima vez que o fiz. :0)

Todos os cães e gatos devem ter o seu passaporte que comprova que foram vacinados contra a raiva. Contudo, provisoriamente, Irlanda, Malta, Suécia e Reino Unido também exigem a realização do teste de eficácia da vacina. Se o seu destino for a Irlanda, Malta ou o Reino Unido, tais testes devem ser efectuados com, pelo menos, seis meses de antecedência, no caso da Suécia o prazo é de 120 dias.
Além disso, Irlanda, Malta e Reino Unido exigem tratamentos contra as carraças e a ténia (echinococcosis). A Finlândia e a Suécia também exigem o tratamento contra a ténia.
Durante os próximos cinco anos será introduzido um microchip electrónico para permitir a fácil identificação do animal. Entretanto pode ser utilizada uma tatuagem para identificação, excepto na Irlanda, em Malta e no Reino Unido, onde já é exigido um microchip.

ABECASSIS/ABECASIS

Origem

A origem deste apelido, que significa "pai de Cassis" parece remontar à tribo de Benjamim, de quem alguns desendentes ocuparam o vale de Cassis, que lhes foi atribuído no momento da ocupação e partilha da Palestina (Jos. 18, 21).
O apelido está também ligado à Arábia antiga e pré-islâmica.
Finalmente, também na Espanha oriental, ainda existem os restos duma antiga cidade chamada Becassis cuja fundação pode ter sido devida a um grupo de judeus provenientes da Arábia.
Os Abecassis, Aboukassis, Abukassis, Bokassis, Boukassis, Bouquassis, Bukassis, vieram do Oriente para Marrocos no séc. X ou antes.
O apelido Abecassis poderia também derivar de outras etimologias: Cassis (sacerdote, religioso), título antigamente usado pelos chefes das comunidades israelitas na Argélia, equivalente ao de Cheikh, em Marrocos.
Não se conhecem provas da presença de Abecassis em Portugal antes do séc. XIX.
A "Genealogia Hebraica", de José Maria Abecassis, de onde foram retiradas estas informações, refere dois ramos desta família: Os Abecassis de Tânger, que se inicia com o Reverendo Yahya Abecassis, grande rabino de Rabat-Salé nos séculos XVII e XVIII; e Os Abecassis de Ponta Delgada e Lisboa, que começam com Messod Abecassis, nascido em 1740, provavelmente em Tânger.
Ainda que as origens remotas pareçam ser as mesmas, os dois ramos que se conhecem em Portugal utilizam grafias diferentes: Abecassis e Abecasis.
A diferença das grafias assenta, ao que parece, numa lenda: o primeiro dos antepassados dos Abecasis a radicar-se em Portugal tendo adoecido, foi tratado por uma católica por quem se apaixonou e casou. Convertendo-se ao catolicismo, teria passado a assinar o nome com apenas um S, diferençando-se assim do outro ramo que se mantave fiel à religião judia até ao século XX.
José Maria Abecassis defende uma outra explicação: em inglês, escrever apenas com um S tem o mesmo som que, escrito em francês ou português, obriga ao uso de dois SS. E assim, todos os desta família provenientes de Gibraltar escrevem Abecasis enquanto todos os de Tânger escrevem Abecassis. (genealogia.netopia.pt)

The first young elephant orphans of Tsavo were “Samson”, a two year old baby bull orphaned during drought conditions in 1952 and “Fatuma”, a two year old baby female orphaned by poachers soon afterwards during the same year. There followed many others over the subsequent early years of David Sheldrick’s 30 years as Warden of Tsavo East National Park, but always only those orphaned either, just below, or at two years old and over, survived. The hand-rearing of a fully milk dependent infant elephant (i.e. under two years of age) was something that eluded the Sheldricks for 28 years for an infant elephant is milk dependent for at least the first two years of life, and those that survive in a wild situation without access to milk between the age of 2 and 5, are few. This has been established by the scientific monitoring of the Amboseli population for the past 30 years. The composition of the fat content of elephants’ milk is very different from that cows’ milk added to which evidence suggests the actual protein and fat composition of elephants’ milk varies during different stages of lactation to cater for the growing needs of a baby. This means that two years is a very long time to be reliant on an artificial substance that is not identical to mother’s milk, especially in view of the fact that Nature has made infant African elephants exceedingly fragile; they can be fine one day and dead the next and one can never be sure that a calf will survive until it is past its third birthday.
